Crew is a spring sport and follows the Loudoun County Spring sport schedule for try-outs and the season.  Spring training is held on the water at Algonkian Regional Park. If weather/water conditions are not favorable at Algonkian, practice will commence at Maverick Rowing.

Daily Practices

Practices are generally Monday through Thursday after school, and on Saturday mornings until the VASRA regattas start. At that time, Saturdays will be spent at Sandy Run Regional Park. It is the athlete’s own responsibility to get to and from each practice.

Need a ride or can give a team member a ride? Fill out the form below.

Schedule Changes

If practice or regatta must be cancelled, you will be notified through TeamLinkt. We will also post the information to our social media pages.

For the most up-to-date information on regatta cancellations or schedule changes, follow @VASRA_SRRP on X.

Spring Break Training – REQUIRED

Spring Break is the most important training —the team can over double the amount of time spent on the water compared to a regular weekday practice, resulting in more strokes on the water, and increased performance by the boat. It is essential that athletes be available for training during Spring Break, and racing opportunities will be preferentially assigned to athletes who participate. We realize that Spring Break is also a time for family vacations. It is a challenge, but it is also the only available time for concentrated practice during the regatta season.

Spring Break training will take place on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of spring break.  Athletes will have off on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  The daily training will include two sessions. Spring Break training is held at Sandy Run Regional Park and bus transportation will be provided.

Transportation

Carpools are strongly recommended. We will provide a form to sign up for carpools closer to the season. This information will be shared with others who are interested in carpooling. It is up to the parents to set up the carpools.

The Riverside Crew Board provides a bus to take athletes to Sandy Run Regional Park on Saturdays. The bus will depart from Riverside at 6:15 am. Please ensure you are dropped off by 6:10 am.

After the regatta is finished, the bus will take you to Algonkian Park where you will assist with unloading the boat trailer and rigging the boats in preparation for practice. Please pick up your child there if they do not have a ride home.

If you drive yourself or receive rides to and from the regattas, you will need to meet the bus and boat trailer at Algonkian Park no later than 1 hour post regatta. For example, if the regatta ends at 3:00pm, you should arrive at Algonkian by 4:00pm.
